draging an image into a multipart comp causes photoshop to hang

As title, since upgrading to Photoshop CC 2014 i have a problem whereby if i drag an image from its source document into my multi-part comp the CPU ramps up to 100% on all 6 cores (which i've never seen happen during normal operation) the Mac then hangs and i have to kill photoshop. Happens on multiple machines with Photoshop CC 2014.

Tried on 2 different Mac Pro's, a 2010 and a 2013, both running Mavericks.

The file i'm having the issue with is 12GB saved to disk and contains multiple smart objects. I believed it to be due to using linked smart objects but after embedding them the problem persists.

This is extremely annoying and makes Photoshop CC 2014 useless to me! I've had to revert to using the old version of Photoshop CC.

Without the documents to reproduce the problem, I'm not sure what might be happening.
A sample of the hung app might help (use the Activity Monitor).

Have you checked the resolution value for both documents, to make sure it isn't resampling the image to something huge?
