Lightroom: Doesn't work with Japanese IME

Lightroom completely ignores the Microsoft IME for Japanese typing on a qwerty-keyboard.

Normally one should be able to type in hiragana or katakana by typing in the characters as if romanized. The IME then converts them to kanas in automatically and suggests kanji. That's how in works in every application... Except Lightroom.

In Lightroom, you can only ever enter alphabetic characters on a qwerty-keyboard. It doesn't seem possible to enter hiragana at all, with the Japanese IME enabled, active and working beautifully in every other application.

First, I'd like to know why Lightroom ignores the IME.

Secondly, please fix this VERY soon. This is a real crapjob for Japanese customers. And whomever incidentally has to enter some japanese text into their descriptions, such as myself.

Tested on Lightroom 6.7 on Windows 10. UK English display language, UK English locale, Japanese IME on a Lenovo T450s laptop with US keyboard layout.

We have verified the issue on ENU Win 10 andJPN Win 10 OS with both LR6.7 GM build 1090788 and LR6.8 build 1099473. The reported problem cannot be reproduced on all of them. Hiragana and katakana characters can beentered and saved when enter alphabetic characters on a qwerty-keyboard withJPN Microsoft IME to create Collections/New Keyword Tag and add Page Text on LR.

I don't understand how you came to that conclusion. I enabled Japanese input, switched over to Lightroom, focused a text input, and... nothing. Just QWERTY typing and no kana's. Even though in the notification area I could clearly see it being enabled, and it was working fine in every other application.

What did you do extra to get it to work? Was there a reboot (of the system, of Lightroom) involved, or a logout/relogin?

Or, did it only work in the New Keyword and Create Collection dialogs? Because I, for one, was only testing it with the Caption/Title (and other text-)fields in the metadata pane on the right hand side.
