Does Photoshop properly handle the 4th band of aerial photo's yet. Historically, it would not preform a change to that 4th band, treating it as a transparency layer, if I remember correctly. I expect this to be a big deal in the next few years. Thanks

Do you mean a fourth channel?
And how additional channels are treated depends entirely on the file format (many specify that the fourth channel must be transparency).

Photoshop can easily add channels that are not transparency, and read and save to file formats that allow additional channels that are, or are not, transparency.

So, I'm not sure what you're "historically" referring to.
