Does Lightroom5 handle APP markers in JFIFs differently than Lightroom4 did?

I have Lightroom 4.4 and have been quite happy with it.

Recently, I started playing with some other RAW converters for some of my pictures, but still use LR to catalog, rate, sort, and continue editing after converting.

Just lately, a recent update to one of my RAW converters, has resulted in JPGs (as well as DNG and TIFF) that cannot be imported by Lightroom. Specifically, I can see the image in the Library Import broswer, but when I try to import it, Lightroom gets stuck on "Importing image..." and never recovers. The rest of the Lightroom app continues to function, but the Import never completes.

I have narrowed, I believe, the problem to this RAW converter using APP markers within the JFIF structure of the JPEG. If I externally edit and strip the APP markers, LR behaves and imports.

I also downloaded a demo of LR5, and it imports the JPGs that have these APP markers in the JFIF just fine.

Which leads me to the title question -- does LR5 treat APP makers differently than LR4 or LR3? On other forums around the net, I have run into other users having similar problems in the LR3 and LR4 products.

From what I understand, though, neither LR4 nor LR3 will receive any further updates, regardless of feature adds or bug squishes. Regardless, if I can further understand the problem, it may help other work around the issue.

Thanks,
Mike

FYI, http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh... has some answers.

Looks like LR4 could not import files that had some XML fields defined, but empty. LR5 apparently can deal with the empty fields.
