Photoshop: document variable tool, error reporting hanging bug

CS5,when working with variables ( a feature I LOVE & use often ) ...has a few error reporting/responding bugs.
example: I point the document to a data set-and lets say the set has a compatibly issue (first line doesnt match the defined variable for example ) CS5 doesnt list the error or problem, instead it refuses to load the selected data set- you can navigate to it, click on it but the previously used data set is still loaded . The only solution I have is to go to another machine ( older machine ) with CS3 and repeat to discover the issue-correct & run the export- ON the old machine.

Infact should you run into ANY issues with the data set -even after correcting them ( and re-saving the .csv file- you can not use that data set with out giving it a different name.
Even after closing & reopening the ps document you cannot run that data set as named-cs5 will not see the new changes in the csv file.... ?

Also should the data contain a field with ONLY a #1 ( as a value NOT with the pound sign ) cs5 WILL report an error with that data set, stating it can not load the data because data #* is incomplete (?)
-example: johnny smith, tom brady,12,1,072.jpg the 1 is not seen as an entry (?)

Thankfully I have CS3 to fall back on... hoping there is a trick or ez solution to this situation.
