Photoshop CC 2018: Do you plan to include Device Preview?

Today I installed new Photoshop update (Adobe Photoshop Version: 19.0 20170929.r.165 2017/09/29: 1138933  x64). And to my surprise, the Device Preview panel is missing. I thought that maybe it needed another preference reset as in past it disappeared couple of times from the Window menu, and was back after resetting preferences (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2372210), but now it didn't help, so I had a chat with Adobe Representative and he informed me that Device Preview is not a part of the program anymore, and I can downgrade my program to previous version to use it. So my question is, do yo plan to put this feature back to Photoshop or people should move away from it to other apps like Sketch, or (arguably) XD? I design a lot of responsive websites and was using this feature very often. Thanks!

I installed and looked at XD, ran through the tutorial. I think it would be easy to use if I were designing directly for mobile devices. But I'm designing for something that will be used on an iPad that's not an app, and it won't work for the project for which I've been using Device Preview. I'm more fortunate than many in that this was a personal project, so it's not impacting work. I'm sure others aren't so lucky. They will need to change their workflow, or convince Adobe to bring back Device Preview inside PS.

I will say, though, XD seems super simple for many types of projects that will be used on a mobile device. I feel like I could use it for basic mobile app design after about 10 minutes with the app. I just wish they didn't think they could quit supporting Device Preview in PS, which is where I'd rather be designing my projects.

I tried XD, I honestly did, for a week. I hate having to switch back to PS to accomplish the most mundane tasks.

I want to be able to use PS for my UI Designs. And it has always worked up till 2018.

Please bring Device Preview back! I tried using XD and while some of its functionality is pretty great, it's much easier to create assets and edit images in Photoshop, which is why I've switched back. This is hampering my ability to showcase my work to my coworkers, investors, and focus groups.

Seriously, what is the logic behind this? Are you guys truly trying to get your entire UI Design market to switch to Sketch? XD is not fit for this kind of work.

I've been watching this thread and there's only one thing that REALLY bothers me: the lack of an explanation. Ok, say they HAD to remove it. Explain! You have so many customers, why not explain how it ... drains the CPU or it's super memory intensive or something! Show us the improvement afterwards. Don't leave us in the dark! I posted on Twitter, but nothing ...

So that's what I suggest you guys ask for - an explanation!

Sadly, it doesn't appear to work in CC 2017 any longer either. I have two iPhones that simply won't connect.

How about Adobe brings it back, or gives a clear statement as to why they removed it.

Skala is not a sufficient substitute. The benefit of Device Preview was seeing mobile design in real time; not having to save a JPG and drag it to another app. There are so many other rarely used tools in Photoshop that are weighing it down, Device Preview was not one. Not everyone has the option to downgrade to 2017 if an entire team has to be on the same version. Please reconsider; I messaged Adobe on Facebook and was directed to this page by an engineer asking me to "vote" and continue the discussion. I will be sending this to all the designers I know.

Yes! - Please tell everyone you know how bad this sucks. I still can't believe they removed such a useful feature.

I checked the website of this software, as it is good to have some options available, but (correct me if I'm wrong, as the website is not in English):

1)  It doesn't seem to be free and I don't want to pay extra for a feature that was previously available in a software that I already pay for (although it's not expensive, but still...);

2) The "Individual package" (cheaper) seems to be working with only ONE device connected at a time. When working on responsive website I constantly switch between iPad / iPhone, or different iPhones (5 and 7), and I would like to be able to do that as well;

HI, it has english version. you check the website and have a language switch aside the logo.
1. and yes, it's not free, 14.9$ for no time limited.
2. the one device means one Computer online at the same time, no mobile devices limit. that means you can connect as many phone/pad/android/ios devices with your photoshop at the same time.

It have 15 days free trial, you can just have a try to make desicsion.
Oh ,there also have tech support if you meet problem...

Thanks for posting! This looks good but I'm waiting for a couple of more reviews before I make a purchase and install something new the computer.

Are you the person who developed the App and Plugin?

Yes, I am the developer.
It's the most welcome tool for designers in China, because users in china can not use the Device Preview at the first time.
and this app is online for two yeas...

what makes you think like that? You have «Device Preview» in XD. And Avocode will launch an Adobe Photoshop to Adobe Xd Converter. The Future is bright ;-)

I don't need or want XD. I have absolutely no use for it at all.
Photoshop on the other hand gets used for eight hours or more every day. I'm paying for Photoshop upgrades but can not upgrade Photoshop until they put back the Device Preview.

That’s exactly the point. People don’t want to use XD! Right now Sketch is eons ahead of XD. The issue is that this is obviously a ploy to force people to use XD if they want preview which should have just remained a part of photoshop. In the end I’ll gaurantee that it doesn’t help Adobe’s bottom line and just pushes more people to use Sketch without photoshop inside their production ecosystem.

Device Preview was the entire reason why I finally upgraded and got myself a monthly subscription.

Now... I'm paying monthly fees for updates but I can't update Photoshop without losing Devise Preview.

There seems to be a $15 plugin to replace Device Preview so I'm seriously considering canceling my monthly subscription and reverting back the last version that I owned.

Please bring back Device Preview. You gave us a great tool, then took it away. I don't understand why take that but leave other bloated never used tools? Why?!

Please reinstate Device Preview. I'm guessing you removed Device Preview to force adoption of Adobe XD.

Not smart, and you're alienating the people that love you. Creativity isn't about forcing people to use tools because of your business goals.

Hi Hannah,

This was a very useful feature to use though and something your competitors have. It would be great to have it back. Many people I know used it and are pretty annoyed it's gone and are now looking at alternatives to Photoshop. The removal has really disrupted peoples design flow.

Regards, Tom

This was an extremely useful tool in photoshop and one of the few that was keeping me designing for screens with Photoshop.  With InVision Studio coming out and apps like Sketch, Adobe is going to lose more users with time.  To say I am disappointed in the removal of this feature is an understatement

Can you please give us any other information about the removal about Device Preview? Your initial post is as vague as possible and your lack of response over these few months is concerning.

My questions, in short:
1) Can you show us any justification that removing Device Preview make Photoshop run faster?
2) Can you tell us what else needed to be done to Device Preview, as you claim you redirected resources to higher-priority needs?
3) Related to #2 - why wasn't the feature left as is and not further developed instead of removing it?
4) How do you respond to accusations that this is a move that forces us to use Adobe XD and that this is the only reason behind the removal?

Thank you,
Chris.
PS: If you can't respond to these questions, for whatever reason, can you direct me to someone who can?

It's obviously a misguided attempt to get people to start using XD even though it's a totally useless as tool for designing complicated graphics and advertisements.

I cannot believe that anyone with any business sense would remove a tool their clients/designers are surely using all the time. I imagine that majority of design is being tested/viewed on mobile devices. How on earth does Adobe decide that this feature is not a priority. You've just retrograded your software by 25years. Unbelievable!!!!

This is just about the stupidest thing Adobe have done in a very long time. No surprise people are moving to Sketch in droves! I haven't done mobile stuff for a little while, but just did a quick mock up on Photoshop and need to check the size of a button.
With preview: 10 seconds job. Without: 10 mins of faffing about saving file, sending image to phone, checking size, making amendments... repeat. Do I need the clunky and feature-less XD for that? NO!  Having removed this from Photoshop is completely idiotic! Rectify this Adobe, please. If I'd known, I would have used Sketch to do this!

Add another business/team subscriber unhappy with the removal of Device Preview. Looks like we'll be rolling back multiple computers tonight.
