Is there somewhere I learn about sidecar files?

When moving an image from folder 'x' to folder 'y' does the xmp or modd sidecar file get automatically moved if moved from inside Lightroom? What about when exporting, does the sidecar file export with the image file? What if I use the OS to do the moving does the sidecar file automatically move? Why are both modd and xmp sidecar files written? Is there a way to embed the information they contain within the file?

If you move the files from within Lightroom the sidecar filesĀ  (JPG, xmp) will be moved automatically.

If you use the OS you need to select all the files manually and move. OS doesn't understand anything about sidecar files.

As RAW file are binary files there is no way to write the information within them. But for DNG, PSD, JPEG,TIFF, PNG file formats the data in the xmp file would be written into them directly.

In case of export the output files depends on the particular option chosen.
