At this time the DNG Converter only supports converting raw files to DNG. The primary purpose of the free DNG Converter is to allow people who buy new cameras to create DNGs from raw files so they can continue to use older versions of Camera Raw that lack support for the new camera model.

Why do you want to convert JPEGs to DNG?

David,

Thank you for responding.

My client(s) wants to wrap jpegs in DNG upon import into Lightroom, to avoid the step of doing it after import.

I don't know for sure all the reasons, but I think one of them is so that the master jpeg, when shared (not exported), is clearly un-baked, can be edited in Lightroom (with non-destructive edits already in xmp), but has a baked preview in it, which can be viewed... - probably the same reasons this feature is supported in Lightroom after import. When jpeg is unwrapped, it is possible to mistake it for a baked/exported jpeg and then proceed to view without benefit of editing instructions, instead of importing in Lightroom... - note: these advantages are not limited to Lightroom context, which is why I thought it would be supported by DNG converter.

Although one can consider this a feature request now, as a question: it has been answered.

Thanks again,
Rob

I want to convert jpegs to dng...
Because I am using Elements and the Organizer.
The Elements editor makes it possible to open jpegs and tiffs in ACR, but the organizer has no option to open those formats in ACR. i am using half raw and jpegs, and not being able to open in ACR is a major problem for me. I miss the non destructive and parametric workflow, I miss the ability to use the 'last conversion' settings to apply the same conversion to several pictures at the same time. I do hate losing my time opening the editor and browsing in the explorer to find the individual jpeg I want to edit in ACR.

ACR can convert jpegs and tiffs to DNG : I suppose it would be a very minor change to allow that in the DNG converter ? Probably much easier than enabling the organizer to open jpegs in ACR (although that has been made in the 'OpenInAcr' module by John R Ellis in older versions...)

I'd be interested in a follow-up answer from Adobe - is there any possibility for this in the foreseeable future...
