Lightroom Classic: DNG files fail to sync

I have a problem syncing LR Classic with LR for iPad. Although not an unheard of issue, I narrowed to some DNG files that are big and with heavy editing, sometimes edited in photoshop. The originally raw files have no problems, but after creating HDRs or Pano HDRs, the new DNG file will not sync.Even worst, the file in question will still show as a sync error also after I removed it from the synced collection.

First if a RAW file, dng or some other Digital Negative type (RAW) file, is edited in Photoshop then a copy is made that is no longer any kind of RAW file. PS does not edit or save RAW files. It must be converted into a PSD, TIFF or JPG file at the time of saving it the first time.

Yes, I know, but the mentioned file never syncs. Some edited TIFF sync others don't. I am still trying to figure out under which circumstances the process fail.

Just a note - those Tiffs/PSDs can be quite large and take a much longer time to sync.

I waited for hours, and the file never synced. I don't think that the problem is just the file size and how long does it take to upload.

Rikk, do you know offhand whether the 200MB Classic upload limit got lifted?

@Christian,

If you find the photo in the Grid in Lightroom Classic, there will be a double-headed arrow in the upper right of the image cell. If you click on it,  what happens?

@Rikk Flohr,  It attempts to sync, but then the three dots appear under the arrow, and the message reads, "Error syncing with Lightroom."

Remove the DNG from:

1. All currently synced collections to which it may belong.
2. All Synced Photos in the Library panel.
3. Verify thumbnail no longer has sync icon.

Restart Lightroom.

Add the DNG back to the collections from which it was removed in step 2.

@Rikk Flohr. I tried that, but even when the photo is not on a synced collection the file is listed on 'Sync Activity' (with an error) under Preferences / Lightroom Sync.So far the only way I have to solve this is to use the "Delete All Synced Data" option and re-upload the synced collections from scratch.

The file is a 115MB .DNG

I am not sure I understand. Is the image now synced by this procedure or is it still stuck?

Hi Cristian,

Classic allows photos to be synced by just placing them in the "All synced photographs" collection. They need not be present in any synced collection. So to get rid of the DNG file from sync, go to the "All synced photographs" collection and remove it.

Before deleting it you can generate a diagnostic log by going to Preferences->Lightroom Sync tab and hold down the Alt/Option key and click the diagnostic log button. You can share it so that we can see what the exact problem might be.

Thanks
