Elements: Add extra options to Divide Scanned Photos

Photoshop Elements needs improved "Divide Scanned Pictures". If I ask to divide I sure don't expect to get single photo back matching original. Google "Divide scanned pictures" to see how many complaints there are. Closely packed photos won't divide. Also neat/tight layout keeps it from working.

Add interactive capability options to specify photo size, number expected, layout hints/templates, manual identification like crop.

I have used Elements since 2.0 and it doesn't look like "divide scanned photos" has improved since it was introduced.

Divide Scanned Pictures is really for people who are scanner lazy. They just throw a couple images on the scanner and go.

If you are neat and meticulous, you probably just want to use the Selection tools, it shouldn't be very hard if you worked so hard on setting up the scan.

The problem with Divide Scanned Pictures is that it is a script and it looks for large chunks of white space. If the threshold of white space is not met (because the images are placed too close together), then this tool will not function. If it can't tell where one photo ends and the next begins (because the white space between images is so regular and small that it can easily be confused with an actual elements within the image), then you won't get expected results.

It sounds as though you should either perfect you scanning technique and skip Divide Scanned Pictures altogether, or you should just get lazy (or at least scan fewer images to leave more white space).

P.S. I did a Google search for "Divide scanned pictures" (including quotes) and this post was the only complaint. Everything else was offers for free tools to download and questions about making this function in tandem with other tools.

I have never seen "divide scanned pictures" working, not with PSE 8 and not using my new PSE 13! But I have discovered that the reason is that my scanner produces a tiny black edge at the border of the scanned document. When the edge is not present everything works just fine!

Best regards
