Lightroom CC: Distorted smart previews on macOS

I just installed LR CC on my second laptop, a Macbook 2016, and synched the smart previews that I have in the Adobe cloud (I only have smart previews there, I don't upload originals).

Going through the images, a few appear significantly distorted. I noticed that this applies only to smart previews of JPEGS, and only if they were created by a recent version of Photoshop CC. JPEGS of the same photo created with Photoshop, say, last year, are unaffected.

Other than that, there does not seem to be a common theme among the distorted smart previews. The same previews look OK on LR CC on my mobile devices (iPhone, iPad) and of course on LR Classic.

I don't know if this is going to be helpful at all, but I had a similar problem in my Lightroom Classic library. For reasons unknown, some of my photos were distorted and I didn't notice any patterns.

The solution was to "reset" the affected photos in the develop module.

Thank you for your reply.

I'm not sure this applies to my case. My usual editing workflow is LR --> PS --> LR, with the last step being importing back the finished image as JPEG into LR.

As I mentioned the distorted images are all JPEGs, so they have no adjustments in LR.
