Distort drop shadows

For a while now I've wished that drop shadows could have a free distort function. Or failing this, a way to turn a drop shadow into a rasterised layer below.

Why? I am a graphic designer and find myself rendering sheets of paper on textured backgrounds to give an impression of printed outcomes for identity designs. Letterheads, cardboard, business cards and various other folded papers need shadows with turned up edges and rounded middles to give work depth.

At present creating these non-square shadows is tricky and takes a whole new layer which increases the file type considerably too. Anyone think making non-square shadows could be easier?

You'll have to convert the layer styles to layers, then distort the shadow layer.
Layer -> Layer Style -> Create Layer

It can't remain live on the layer and have distortions applied (for several reasons).
