Disabling PSB compression was the single greatest workflow improvement for my work within photoshop this year. I want to thank Chris Cox, and who else worked on this little plugin, for their work: thank you thank you thank you!

The original problem was that really large layered files (i.e. gigapixel photos) would take forever to save (and PSB was the only file format available for that kind of work), making me dread to save intermediate files, which would take easily from 15-60 minutes, depending how large the file is (and dreading the thought that a crash would wipe out hours of work). With the compression plugin, files are obviously larger (but HD space is cheap after all), but save basically as fast as your disk allows. And zipping up the PSB once all the work is done is just a click away.

You're welcome.

It won't help everyone: if you have a normal speed disk, it may not be much faster. But if you have a fast disk, it can help.

it does help a lot: previously i saw write speeds of 10MB/s (due to CPU intensive compression), now I see 100-200MB/sec...
