Photoshop CC 2014: Direct selection tool for paths not working

OSX 10.9.3
CC 20141014.r.257 x64

When selecting a shape layer, the direct selection tool does not make vertices visible or editable. When going to another ps document and selecting a shape layer in that document, the direct selection tool works again in both documents.

Are you using a mouse or tablet? Any reason you're not running the latest updates for Mac OS 10.9?

I am using a mouse. The reason I am not running the newest OSX is that it has proven buggy for my colleagues (Graphical errors in photoshop and illustrator).

Do you suggest, that updating the OS will solve the problem?

Getting the same issue. Points on a shape layer are not visible or editable when using the direct selection tool or the path selection tool.

For anyone out there with the same problem, the issue resolved itself for me after I created a new rectangle shape on a new layer.

It does so for me aswell, but the problem reappears at random.

For anyone having the same problem:

Pressing enter/return while the shape layer is selected seems to toggle between two modes. One mode where you can use your direct select tool and one where you cannot.

So pressing enter/return sort of solves the problem eventhough it would be easier if it just switched to direct select mode automatically when using the direct select tool.

So this just happened to me, the rectangle thing helped but only for that layer, so that didn't help me with text or raster layers.

I realized it was only happening in one PSD. I'm not sure if this is the case for everyone, but I wanted to post what happened with me. I simply DUPLICATED the layers into a NEW PSD and I stopped having the issue.

Still have no clue what caused it unfortunately but the new PSD works just fine.
