PHOTOSHOP CC 2015 - Direct Selection tool and zoom (space bar + Command) doesn't work

When using the Direct Selection tool, I try to zoom in on the artwork using Space+Cmd and Photoshop still tries to select the vector objects. It doesn't zoom, even though the zoom icon shows up with Space+Cmd pressed.

Howdy Greg,

What version of Photoshop are you running?  What Operating System are you using?  What kind of video card do you have?  If you click Photoshop > Preferences > Performance, what does it say on the top right under Graphics Processor Settings?

I just checked using the latest PS CC 2015 on OS 10.10.3 and CMD+SPACE+Direct Selection Tool does correctly function as Zoom (and adding OPT makes it Zoom Out).  I'm pretty certain that something else is going on with your machine, though I'm happy to help you figure out what it is.

Thanks,
David

Photoshop 2015.0.1
Mac 10.10.5
AMD Radeon HD 6970M

I'm noticing it on a PS file that has 5 artboards. Sometimes the zoom works and sometimes it tries to select the vector objects. Might be a fluke that restarting will help.

Howdy Greg,

I just tried with 15 artboards and didn't see any problems.  I also tried on a colleague's machine that's running 10.10.5 as well as the machine in my office.

When you say that the shortcut doesn't work, do you mean that you get the Spotlight dialog when you use the key-combo?  If so, you can disable it under System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Spotlight.

Also, you're staying that restarting PS clears the issue or are you referring to restarting the OS?

Thanks,
David

No, it's not Spotlight. I've restarted the Mac and it seems to work as expected, for the most part. I noticed it again right after loading the document, but as I worked on the file, it didn't seem to happen. Maybe it's just a lag in performance when the document is loading?

Hi Greg,

If it happens again, can you do a screen capture of any dialogs that appear?

Also, keep in mind that artboard documents are deceptively large.  If the document hadn't fully loaded, all bets are off about functionality.

I did see that on 10.10.5 CMD+SpaceBar does now trigger Apple's Spotlight feature, preempting Photoshop's commands.  And, as noted, this can be disable via System Prefs.

Thanks,
David
