Lightroom: Direct 2D is not installed

I have just updated my LR version 6. It runs on a 64 bit Windows 10 (Pro) PC. When I launch LR and click on a photo, a message from LR greets me with the inscription "Direct 2D Is not Installed". I clicked on the 'More Information' button, but as you would guess (correctly) from my posting this, there was none that seemed relevant. Is this important?

Make sure your video card drivers are up to date by going to your video card manufacturer's website and downloading the latest version and installing. See if your message goes away.

It would be good to learn how to do this upgrade of the video card. It's not something I'm already acquainted with.

It may impact your slideshow playback. As Rikk suggested, first try to update the video card (GPU) driver. The Direct 2D is acting like as a fallback mechanism if the GPU support is not sufficient.

According to my LR Help>System, I have an Intel HD Graphics 4000 installed (on my Windows 10 Pro 64 bit PC) which I bought new in June/July 2013

Looking at this website/link:

which of the available updates would work in this context, if any?

Follow-Up:

After an epiphany of sorts, I went to Intel's website (since I learned I had their video card on board my 64bit, Windows 10 Pro, PC) to see what I would see. I downloaded an app that would scan my PC, identify any obsolescent drivers, and afford me the opp'y to update them, which I have done. One of the drivers appeared to update the video card (the putative solution to this 'error' message). After restarting LR, I find the same 'error' message greeting me. Sort of puzzling, to say the least.

I have gotten the same message after updating Lightroom to the latest version yesterday (from 2015.5 to 2015.6). It used to be fine before.

I have a Radeon R9 280 and the drivers were updated last week. Everything was fine before updating Lightroom to the latest version.

Can you launch Lightroom and select Help > System Info... and reply with the text contents of that dialog? Might give us some clues.

So it seems some strange things are happening with my video card drivers. I went to check the version installed and I couldn't find the AMD Radeon control pannel anywhere. It looked as if it wasn't installed at all. 

I went to get the latest drivers from the AMD site (non-whql-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.6.1-win10-win8.1-win7-june2) and ran the installer. Installer offered to upgrade the current drivers (meaning they were installed), installed and rebooted. 

Upon reboot, I got to see the AMD Radeon control panel for a brief moment, and then it disappeared and there is no trace of it again, as if it's not installed. 

At this point I am inclined to believe the issue lies with the video card drivers at a system level and not Lightroom necessarily. Maybe the Lightroom update coincided with the video card drivers update which screwed things up. I will try reverting to an older video card driver version to see if that fixes things.

I reverted back to driver version 15.11 which I previously had installed without issues. The drivers seem alright now, but I am still getting the message in Lightroom. The funny part is that I am able to play the videos just fine, even though the message appears. 

I found another discussion on a similar topic - one of the suggestions was to run dxdiag.exe. I did and everything seems normal.

Our dev has investigated issue and was able to reproduce the "error" warning. This will be fixed in the next Lightroom update.

Aside from the annoyance of having this "error" message dialog coming up, there is no other side effects. Your video and slideshow would continue to work. You can check the checkbox  “Don’t show again” in the message dialog to ignore it or you could rollback to the Lr 2015.5.1/6.5.1 from here

Uninstall, Install LR CC 2015.0/6.0, Upgrade to 2015.5.1/6.5.1.

In Andre's case, his system info reports:

GPUDeviceEnabled: false
OGLEnabled: true
Direct2DEnabled: false

Because it reports OGLEnabled to true. He is fine.

Can you post your system info dialog from Lightroom>Help>System Info...

How come your system info text is shown in the reverse order :-).

According to the info.

Check OpenGL support: Passed (this means the GPU acceleration in the develop can be enabled)

OGLEnabled: true (this means your video and slideshow playback is GPU accelerated).

Based on the info, your system with the existing GPU driver is just fine.
