Lightroom: Develop settings are reset when opening original files via "open in PS as original".

When I export from Lightroom 5.7 to work with the original in photoshop, it resets the file to its original state, and leave it as is, instead of keeping the modifications made in Lightroom (in Lightroom). The modifications are kept in the history though.

Not sure why you are exporting to edit in Ps - why not use "Edit In Ps" instead? (see File Menu). Anyway, presumably you are exporting in original format (?).

In general, if settings are reset, it means there was something not right about the xmp (like it was non-existent, or incompatible). Consider:

* save (xmp) metadata in Lr.
* make sure you can read saved metadata back in Lightroom without settings getting reset.
* assure the version of ACR in Ps matches that in Lr.

If still a problem, it would be worth knowing which version of Ps/ACR and which OS.

Keep us posted..

Sorry, I didn't express myself correctly. I am indeed choosing "edit in Ps".

OK - thanks for clarifying.

It would help if you provide as much info as you can think of (whilst keeping in mind that concise-ness is a virtue), that might help trouble-shoot this problem.

To start with, how about the version of Photoshop and ACR plugin, as well as OS you are using.

Also, step-by-step instructions to reproduce problem would be helpful - including screenshots or video, if possible and sensible..

Sorry for being dense, but I'm still not sure exactly what the trouble is, i.e. are Lr settings not being applied in Photoshop, or are Lr settings being reset in Lr as soon as you invoke the "Edit In..", or are Photoshop mods not making their way back to Lr...

Alright, I updated my version of Camera Raw and it worked again.

My problem was with .tif files. When I did some modifications in the development panel on them, and then right click on the picture, and Edited them in PS, as the original files, the original file would open in Ps. However, it would reset all the settings in lightroom. In the history, all the changes were there, and on top, an "export" event, that was reseting everything. Going back in the history would solve the problem.

So, it sounds like this problem was just due to ACR version mismatch.

If that is correct, it could be marked "Solved", although it might be worth a feature request: Lr should be able to determine the ACR plugin version and warn of mismatch.
