Photoshop: Default save as last used format.

Currently a save defaults to PSD and if you desire different format you have to scroll each time to the desired format. I would like the program to remember the format last used and default to it instead. I save all my work as a PNG format.

Photoshop does remember the last saved format, IF that format can handle all the data in your document.

So, if you have a flat document and save as PNG, Photoshop will remember that you wanted PNG. But if you add a layer above the background - then it goes back to PSD because PNG can't save layers (it would lose information).

I understood that aspect of Potoshop. What I wanted was for the program to default to previously used format, even if there are layers opened. This would facilitate saving various versions of the finished photo by hiding or revealing various layers before saving each version. I also know that you can also flatten, save, undo flatten to accomplish this. The fewer keystrokes needed to accomplish a purpose, the better the program for the end user.

It can't default to a format that cannot save the contents of the document -- that would be data loss (a major problem).

You don't have to flatten, you can just save a copy.

I also work a lot with PNG and I can't believe CS6 still doesn't even give the user an option to just remember last file type. This is SO annoying considering how much you $$$ pay for the suite.

Yes sure data loss blah blah ...,
BUT
1) you don't close the document NORMALLY when you are working on it anyways when saving, IT IS STILL IN THE TAB/WINDOW so you don't destroy any data in the session. CAN EVERYONE PLZ STOP SAYING YOU DESTROY DATA. !!! It only will happen when you close the suite and THEN save as anything else but PSD.

2) Even "Save As" also doesn't remember last saved as type.

Only real solution for anyone who also need this is to record your own Action script(Window -> Actions) there are many tutorials on how to use this...
