Lightroom is not detecting my lens type on jpg photos taken with my Pentax DA 18-55mm WR lens. It does detect the lens when shooting raw. The camera is a Pentax K-30 firmware version 1.04.

No one has created a profile for it yet. Profiles are file type specific - meaning that a profile for a JPEG cannot automatically be applied to a Raw and vice-versa.

You can download the Adobe Lens Profile tool and create your own.

It is possible to hack the existing profile to become a Raw profile but it isn't quite as good as creating a quality profile from a series of Raw captures;.

JPGs from the camera may already have some lens-corrections applied, so LR cannot assume the raw profile would match the corrections needed for JPGs.

If I was sure the geometric and vignetting lens-corrections from the RAW profile also needed to be applied to JPGs then I would find the lens-corrections data file (.lcp file) in the following location on my Windows computer:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\Pentax\

Then I would make a copy and put it over in my non-Adobe-supplied profiles folder, here:

Then I would edit that copy of the .lcp file in a text editor and change the line that says CameraRawProfile="True" to "False" and save it, then rename it to remove the RAW from the end of the filename.

Those changes allow me to manually assign a lens correction, but the metadata still shows it as unknown. I found a thread that suggests the k-30 has changed the lens Exif code format from earlier models like the k-5.

Is it possible I just need to wait for Adobe to update the Exif library to account for these changes?
