Adobe Lightroom 5.6, Camera Raw 8.6, Windows 7
Importing around 800 raw files taken on a Nikon D810 from a card-reader, when generating previews about 50 images end up with severe clour banding across part or all of the image. The files have been viewed in Photoshop and on a Mac laptop and look fine.

The problem shows in all modules. If the files are removed from Lightroom and re-imported the majority are okay abut it takes a few goes to get them all correct.

Imported 500 raw files from a D7100 the same day, no problems occured.

Screen print available if required.

Thanks

It looks like a hardware issue. Memory Card, Cable, Card Reader are the likely first culprits to check.

Rikk, thanks for your reply - tested further and you're right! The confusion comes from not knowing when you're looking at the jpg preview from the raw file and the actual rendered raw file.

Turns out the card reader is the culprit - images imported via the card reader consistently show the problem, import via the camera and its much slower but ll images are fine.

Time for a new card reader then
