Photoshop Elements: Custom Numbering on Downloaded photos not Correct

I have just spent an hour with support to no avail. When downloading from a card reader, if you use a custom name, the photos are numbered incorrectly. Photos taken on a specific day are numbered ok - the oldest photo has the lowest number (these are the automatic numbers added to your custom name). But, if you have photos taken on multiple days, the photos (by date) are backwards..... the newest photo has the lowest number and the oldest a higher number (while in the specific date, the photos remain correctly oldest as lowest and newest as highest). Support says it cannot be done.... I think that this is a bug in the program!!!!!!

This is how it is designed for APD i.e.

Give a lower number to the image shot first with in a day and give a lower number to the image shot at newest date.
That's why within a day, you see the image in the order you shot them.

Let me know if you think otherwise.

No, I agree but it does not make sense. Giving the lowest number to the image shot first in the day is right, but then why give the newest day a lower number. If one wants to keep the numbering of images in order, the older day should have lower numbers than the newer day. I love seeing the images in a particular day go from lower to higher, but want that carried through on all pictures so there is a sequential order for ALL the photos. The cameras do it, I don't see why Adobe felt if had to do otherwise and certainly why we are not given the choice as to how we would like it!

The context is for users to see the images of the newest date at top while maintaining the shot order of the photos within that day.

The order in which photos are shot in a day tells the story of that day and user will not like his story reversed.

As far as I know, this was always the case.
The logic helps user to see the images of the newest date at top while maintaining the shot order of the photos within that day.

No, it is illogical. When Adobe imports camera images using the camera's numbering system, All photos remain in logical order. The last picture taken has the highest number. In the case of renaming the photos, the last picture taken will have a low er number if there are pictures taken on multiple days..... so one is NOT seeing the image with the newest date at top.

BTW, please note I am not talking about the organizer viewer, which does put the last picture taken first on the thumbnails (unless one reverses the order). I am strictly talking about the renaming procedure on the download and the sequential numbers Adobe adds at the end of the custom name. If one were to open windows explorer, and sort by name, the date order would be out of sequence, but the individual days would be correctly sequential. Am I making myself clear?

Thanks for helping. I have already spent 2 hours on this with a support tech and he tells me it is not possible and that it would need to be done in the next version of Adobe. That is why I posted here..... it was his advice. Right now, the only work around is to download each day I use the camera, not always possible, or use another program to have it done correctly.

Thank you. I really like Elements and would like to continue to be able to use it. Last night it took me about an hour to figure out how to download the photos in the right order. The work-around is to check images for only one date and download them by groups. In that way, I can download each day separately and get the numbering in the correct order..... by starting with the oldest date of photos first. As you can imagine, with a lot of pictures it is a long time of deselecting photos and numerous times of downloading from each card. The other solution is to download EACH day which is not always possible. Both are a real pain!

Please let me know if and when this will be corrected. I know ver 10 just came out. Can we expect a partial upgrade on this or must we wait for version 11 and when will that be?

I can't comment on that right now. I've forwarded your request to product team and they are looking into it.
