Curvature Pen Tool Curves the Wrong Way

Hi, I've been experimenting in PS CC 2018 with the new Curvature Pen Tool. However, I think it needs a bit of adjusting. Here is a screenshot of me using it to clip around a curve. Notice that even though my next point is to the left of the previous point (and the previous point was to the left of it), it's not following the curve of the edge of the item being clipped as expected, but is actually curving the opposite direction (apologies for not also capturing the tool icon). Can you please adjust this so the tool is more intuitive/accurate?

Thanks,

-Andy

That's not how this tool works. It does not follow anything in the image, it follows the flow of clicks that you make. So you have to guide it.

Haha, I know the tool isn't supposed to literally follow what you're trying to clip Johan. I am trying to guide it. However, my screenshot clearly shows that it in fact does not follow the flow of clicks that I make.

Notice again that the previous point I clicked was to the RIGHT of the last point, and the next previous point was to the LEFT of it. So, I essentially created a left turning corner. So... why did the tool want to turn the opposite way?

I'm not trying to be overly picky. I just wondering why the tool doesn't work as expected.

It works as designed. It is just different than the way the regular pen tool works. Once you get used to the difference it is very useful and easy.

Hi Max,

I completely understand that it works differently than the Pen tool. I've used the Pen tool many years and feel I've mastered it. However, again, as you can clearly see from my screenshot, the Curvature Pen Tool doesn't always follow the flow of clicks as expected, that's all.

Here's another example. See how that point close to the middle and the next point to the left is all wavy? (I switched tools back to the regular pen tool to highlight it more) I'm willing to admit that maybe I just need more practice with the Curvature tool, but this path seems pretty straightforward, yet I had to go back and fix it with the regular pen.

It does Max, but here's a thought... what if the tool just had a "Curve Influence" setting from 1 to 10 or something? I think that could be very useful, for when you want tighter or smoother curves. However, I'm not sure Adobe would go for it.

The Curvature Pen Tool will keep curving. If you want it to make a straight line between two points, double click rather than single click.

I'm aware of this Johan... either double or Alt+click for a corner, but thanks for the input.

Not just for a corner, also if you want it to stop 'waving' like this.

..well then wouldn't that be like just using the Polygonal Lasso? I want curves that follow the flow of the points.

The curvature pen tool is not  designed specifically to make selections. It's used to make scalable vector shapes.

That's fine John, but then I might ask why it was added to a raster program? Notice the first thing the lady says in this video is, "paths are useful in getting accurate selections... "? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVDXFOCkk1E

I assure you I'm not trying to be difficult, I would just like the tool to be more useful and accurate, that's all. Many of us such as myself use the pen tool daily, multiple times, for selections in PS.
