Could someone please tell me why my cursive font letters don't connect in Photoshop 12 when they WILL connect in other programs, even in Microsoft Word? Please help!

Hi Lani,

With most fonts, ligatures (the connection of cursive characters) is an Open Type feature. You must enable this feature to see the effect. By default most OT features are turned off.

Hope that helps. If not, please ping me for further assistance.

Thanks,
David

Thanks, David. After looking at photoshop elements 12 and Font Book (I have an iMac running on OS X 10.9.1), it's not evident to me how to turn on those OT features. Can you explain to me how I do that? Thanks!!

I am having the same problem and just found this post.  Did you ever find out how to turn on the OT features?  I'd like to know as well as I've googled it and had no luck.  Thanks.

Howdy Monique,

I'm not a member of the Photoshop Elements team, but I do work heavily with Type on Photoshop.  I went and installed Elements and it doesn't appear that that application has any controls to manipulate any of the Open Type features, including both Standard and Discretionary Ligatures.

Here's a screenshot from Photoshop, showing the controls:

Thanks,
David

Thanks so much for the response David.  I ended up just doing each letter separately, moving them closer together so they connected, then I linked those layers so the word was able to be moved around as one word.  I appreciate you coming back to me.  Thanks.
