if you add Ctrl + N as a new layer shortcut, there will be "new layer" popup. Please make it so that you can bypass this popup, it would be much faster.

Have you tried using ctrl-alt-shift-N?
Otherwise one could make an Action or a Script that generates a new pixel layer without dialog and assign that a keyboard shortcut.

Yes I use that shortcut daily, but the combination of keys too akward for the fingers, so ti's too slow to use.

It is faster to click new layer icon than to use that shortcut key combination.

It would be great to have ctrl + n as a "new layer / make layer" without new layer popup.

Actions are great, but that particular ctrl + n would be faster than shift + F7 or so.
Just like ctrl + G is fast to use.

While Action may be limited to f-key shortcuts Scripts can be assigned other combinations, so maybe you should create a Script for the task and assign that the desired Keyboard Shortcut.

That's good to know!

I found script for "new layer":
http://bit.ly/1FyMDv9

and added it to the c:program files / adobe / photoshop cc / presets / scripts folder, but it doesn't appear in the photoshop script dropdown menu..

The menu seems to be full (?) I tried to delete some of the scripts in that folder but they didn't go away from the menu..

I’m no Windows user – is that the Presets folder right beside the Photoshop exe?

I had wrong folder in use!
(old & uninstalled PS CC, not CC 2014 which I currently use)

Now I have Ctrl + N assigned to the newLayer script.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate it!

Hi Vesa, have you tried this with CC 2015? It doesn't work for me. I tried to move the jsx-file to both the scripts folder and the sub folder "Event scripts only", but still PS tries to create a new document instead of a layer.

Yes I've tried it, but it mixes up the system and doesn't work, so you shouldn't use it. It's not good script anyway.

I assigned ctrl alt shft N action to F4. Just one button and I get a new layer. Pretty quick shortcut imo
