I am not at all familiar with photoshop and i'm currently running the cs6 trial on my macbook pro, trying to create a GIF. Every time I use the save for web action i encounter an error. Is there any way around this?

Which OS version?
Are you trying to save to a file server, by any chance?

OK, then what error is it giving you?
And why are you not using 10.7.4? (Apple fixed a lot of bugs in each dot release)

Alright I'm now using 10.7.4 and it is still occurring

The error window's title is "Adobe Save for Web Error" and it reads,"could not complete this operation. An unknown error has occurred"

There are lots of issues that we have discovered with GIF's and CS6. We were even on with support for a total of 4 days only to find out they did not have an answer for us.

So, after a few days of trial and error, we came up with some ways to work with GIF files and create smooth motion transitions and save them without color loss and other issues. Check out our tutorial.....http://stoneleighphotography.com/maki...

Hmm, I have not heard of this issue. Are you still getting the error with Save For Web?

I would suggest trying these basic trouble-shooting steps:

If this issue persists, try checking the image size to compare to the canvas size. I had the same issue and found this to help. Make sure the image size is not something like 20,000 inches. Try making it smaller or changing the measurement to pixels, if it is not already. Next, make sure the canvas size is not smaller than the image size, nor bigger than it. If so, change it to the same size with the same measurement of pixels or whatever the image's is. Try saving for web, again. This should work, if not then try removing the profile files (Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Save For Web 12.0 Prefs). Then restart your Mac and relaunch photoshop. Hope this helped!

I have several students working with exporting these and they had the same problem.  It was solved by decreasing the size of most of them by 20% to 25% for all layers.  Images->Image Size->change the pixels or images selected to percent.  We began to realize that .gifs are usually pretty small and lower quality.

For me it was a memory problem. I closed down all apps, Reopened PS on its own and tried then. It worked. I wonder if its a limitation of the legacy export to web panel.
