Photoshop CS6 freezing when using the brush or stamp tool (MacOS event target problem due to app switching)

For sometime now, using Photoshop CS6 has been annoying me with freezes when I use the brush or stamp tool. It would not happen all the time but the symptoms go like this:

I have chosen the brush tool to paint on a mask and start to paint. The tool respondes to the first brush stroke and then it stops responding. I have to either wait 30 to 60 seconds for it to start responding again. Or, if I "command-tab" on my Mac to bring up the finder to show the running apps I can select another app and then go back into photoshop and sometimes that works but not always. The same thing would happen with the stamp tool.

I watched a video about trashing the preferences file (by Julianne Kost) and restarting CS6 and it seems to have cleared up the problem. I am working on a Mac 12 core with OSX 10.6.8

I would have uploaded the old preferences file but could not ad it to this post

That sounds like you're hitting a known MacOS bug (nothing to do with preferences). Right now the only workaround is to switch apps and switch back. We're talking to Apple about how to work around the issue until they can fix the OS code.

Hey Chris – do you have any news on this? I was hoping CC 2014 would help, but same problem here, brush/stamp/lasso freeze – and have to with apps and back to clear – thanks in advance

It looks like trashing the preferences did not really clear up the problem. I hope apple gets this fixed. Would you know if this is something that happens in Mountain Lion. I have been thinking about upgrading but.....

OK, then I don't know how to explain lag while brushing, unless maybe something else on your system is interfering.
