Photoshop CS6 crop tool renames Layer and forces psd

Using crop tool in either new or Classic mode, when I accept crop changes and see the cropped image on the screen, the Background layer which was showing in the layers panel is now renamed to Layer 0, which forces Save to offer psd only. Huh? Why the change I don't know, perhaps I missed something. Very time consuming to have to tell the file type to be jpg, then save it, then when trying to exit the file have to exit twice (which I also do not understand) and then answer the "Do you want to save?" question that always pops up when psds are not saved. Help me find the place to change something if possible. I have looked, maybe in the wrong places.

Fixed!!!!!!!!

Wow, what a bad setup this was, at least from my point of view. The default setting for the crop tool is to preserve pixels, which is not the default on older version. Anyway, when I click on the new 'Delete cropped pixels' box the "problem" I had is gone.
