CS6 crashed on saving large files

CS 6 crashed three times in one week now while saving large (ca. 1GB) layered files (twice on the same file, once on a different one). It closed without a message. It didn't ask for saving the other open files before closing, it was just gone.
Any ideas, or is this a known bug that will be resolved with the next update?
Thanks!

Closed without a message? That is odd, and shouldn't be possible - if it crashes, there should be some notification of the crash.

No, that is not a known bug to the best of my knowledge.

The program just vanishes without notice, after processing quite a while, i.e. trying to save the file. With small or medium sized files (~100 MB) I've never had an issue, but with the large ones (500 MB and up, plus a lot of layers) it's happened 3 times this week, and twice in the previous two weeks. I have re-installed CS6 -- still does it. With CS5,4 and 3 I've never had that problem.

Here's the message in the Windows Event Viewer Application log, I don't know if that helps:

I have had the same problem--no warning, no message, just click save (and on occasion it hasn't even waited for me to try to save before crashing) and the whole thing disappears and exits. I learned the hard way to change my settings to auto-save every 10 minutes instead of 30. :( I have no plug-ins at all, just your basic version of CS6. In fact, I had zero crashes at all during my beta trial and have had several in the last few weeks or so.

Which OS version are you using?
When does this happen during the save process? Right after hitting save, after the OS file save dialog, after the file format options dialog, or during the file write (while progress is showing)?
Do you have background save enabled, or disabled?

I use Windows 7, background save is enabled, set for 10 minutes (used to be set at 30). It has happened out of the blue even when I am not saving, but I have noticed that most times it happens the instant I click Save As. I always Save As first, then Save for Web. When this happens, I have to re-open the program, pray that I have not lost everything I've done for the last 10 minutes and save in both formats.

OK, so it is happening early in the save process, before any dialog shows up, and possibly when auto-save kicks in.
Could you try turning off background save and see if it's more stable?

I have had the exact same issue. I also have background save enabled and have experienced this sort of crash with only large files. I lost some work last night due to trying to save a copy for web and it crashing without an error message or box or anything. It simply vanishes.

I'm on Windows 7 also.
I don't wish to lose the background save feature. I hope there will be a fix for this. If it's not creating a log, how can we discover more information to give about it?

Are you using CS3 or CS6

Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 10.0.1.0, time stamp: 0x470fd6cb
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Photoshop.exe

That is the 32Bit CS3 location

CS6 is Photoshop version 13 a real bummer at best

CS6 - you need to read the comment two down from that respective post. It was the wrong log, for the CS6 crashing no error was recorded in the event log...

I don't get any notifications at all either. It's just there one second, and gone the next. Do you think an uninstall/reinstall will help? It's getting to be a nuisance, and it never happened even once on my copy of the Beta.

This is such an annoying problem. I have even deleted and then installed again fresh and I still have this issue.

If I try and Force Quit PS6 will freeze my computer. I then have to shut down holding the power button.

Super annoying.

I will do command s and then it says saving 0% and acts like it's doing something but it really isn't. I just get the pinwheel.

If the whole computer freezes, you have a serious problem at the OS, driver, or hardware level.

And you're talking about saving not showing progress - not the same thing as a crash.

Well I can agree that it is super annoying, but mine isn't even getting to the point where it says "saving". CS6 just shuts off completely. I wish there was a reason/fix because I do love the program.
