Is there a workaround or am I forced to purchase CC?

I've not upgraded to Sierra, but I, and many other Mac users with various versions of the OS, have successfully used Apple's Image Capture.app when we've had problems with PD to import our photos to our hard drive. Bridge can manage it from there, since Bridge is just a file browser.

Personally, I wouldn't want to go back to CS6, but if you're happy with as much as it does, then you don't need to purchase CC just to get your photos onto your drive where you want them to be. It took me about 5 minutes—okay, maybe a few minutes more than that—to figure out how to select the files and put them where I wanted them to go.

Thanks for the reply, Cristen! Somewhere along the way, I saw a comment about clicking on Help and downloading the latest updates for CS6, which I did. That seemed to make all the difference. I was then able to download NEF files via the card reader and store a Source copy on one external drive while storing a Working copy on another external drive. After figuring out how to put my "Pictures" folder back in the sidebar (it had mysteriously disappeared), I was able to go about the usual post production in the Working files and save the results to my internal hardrive Picture folder. So, all is well and I avoid paying the dreaded ten dollar monthly fee for CC.

Nice to know it's so easy and Adobe is doing its best to keep up with the OS changes even for CS6. NEF files have been fine on CC, but cameras tend to get out of sync between the OS and PD fairly easily.

Since the Pictures folder disappeared from your sidebar after updating CS6, keep in mind you may need to delete your preferences and then reinstate them if you experience any more odd failures with Bridge. They can get out of whack.
