Photoshop CS5 just started crashing when "Saving for Web". Every time, without fail. It was working fine on 10/6/11 and now it does not.

Have you trashed the prefs yet?
Specifically
~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Plugins/Adobe Save for Web CS5/Photoshop/Adobe Save for Web CS5 Prefs

But then that’s for Mac and I don’t know which platform you work on as you seem to have deemed that information not relevant.

Sorry for the delay. Yes, I have deleted the Prefs file from my Win7 machine under the C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Save for Web\11.0
When I re-run the directory gets recreated, but no Prefs file. CS5 still crashes.

Did anything else change on 10/6? Did you install any new plug-ins?

Have you also tried resetting Photoshop's general prefs?

I've looked through my history and can't find anything that might have caused the issue. 10/6 was the last time I used "save for web" and it worked fine. Nothing new has been added. I discovered the issue by using the Watermark extension 2.0.6, which I have used 100's of times before. At first I thought it was the extension causing the issue, but part of that script is the option to "save for web". After reloading that, and getting the same crash, I discovered it did not crash when I did not use the save for web option. When I opened just one file and used save for web by itself, CS5 crashes. Resetting the general prefs did not help.
Discovery: I use CS5 32 bit primarily because most of my plugins are 32 bit only.
CS5 32 crashes, CS5 64 does not.

Same thing is all of a sudden happening to me in 64 bit. I added nothing new at all. I use it every day and all of a sudden it started happening . I don't want to trash the settings file right yet because I don' know what doing that will do. I have some plug ins, some of which you can't get anymore. I am not knowledgeable about the back end of photoshop at all.

I think I figured it out! I have been having the same issues. Go to Preferences, Performance, and change Cache Tile Size, I bumped mine up to 1024k. I was able to publish my GIF only after changing that. I hope that help.

My guess is there's a conflict with one of the 32bit plug-ins that loads that doesn't load in 64bit:

Troubleshoot plug-ins (Photoshop CS5 and CS4): http://adobe.ly/PSPlugIn

Get back to the default, shipping plug-ins for Photoshop and you should be in business. Then narrow down which plug-in has the conflict.
