Photoshop: CS5 causing overactive processor

My photoshop CS5 chunners away using 50 -70% of my processing power even when I have no picture loaded or am performing any action whatsoever. Why? All other programs closed.

After creating all the font previews in the background, the CPU usage should settle to under 1% (and does for other users).

Do you have any third party plugins installed? Have you tried disabling them?

Could you have some corrupt fonts that are causing problems for the previews? Have you tried turning off the font previews?

I would also try this:

1) Go into Photoshop's Preferences>Plug-Ins... dialog and disable all three options under Extension Panels
2) Restart Photoshop

Let me know if the problem persists.
