Photoshop CC 2015: Crop with marquee tool "file was not found"

When a crop a certain file with the Marquee tool and the image -> crop menu, I get a dialog: Could not complete the Crop command because the file was not found.

My guess is that this is because my file contains icons from a CC Library that is not available (not shared with me).

Still, it should allow me to crop!

Thanks for posting here Felix, Can you share the screenshot you have, and provide more details?

Which version of Photoshop is currently installed?

I can't provide a screenshot as it is sensitive information (other than that image). However, I can tell you it is a web design with a lot of layers. The file contains icon from a CC Library that is not shared with me, as the design was begun by another designer.

Version is 2015.1.1

The missing linked smart object file is probably the cause of that error.

I get a different error with the conditions you describe:

I suspect Photoshop wants the file to rerasterize at the new resolution.

I'm getting the proper error message as well, not the one Felixo showed.

Hi Felixo,

Would be possible to share a file that exhibits this behavior? (share via Creative Cloud or dropbox)

I'm sorry, I can't share this... Confidential stuff from a large corporation.

Just so you know: Now that I subscribed to the missing Cloud Library, I can crop. So the bug is definitely related to that!

I get this normally when a smart object/(text with a font I don't have) has been imported possibly from illustrator or something (indesign style). The PSD retains the image data, but, it's uncroppable

Simple work around: Copy the image to a new ps file [including all relevant layers]
and save that file.
Now nothing is missing for ps...
Good luck
