Photoshop: Crop changes the colors on my multi-layer document

I work on layered photoshop documents.

When I'm at the end of my retouching I often crop the image.

The crop tool does not work as expected. It crops to the dimensions I choose, but the colors of my document change dramatically.

I can easily reproduce this behavior.

I think you have to give some more details. What kind of layers are you using? What version of Photoshop? Windows/Mac?

What version of Mac OS are you running on?  Can you post a screenshot of before and after?  Have you tried turning off the GPU?  Are you using a specific color space?  How many layers (roughly)?  Blend modes?  RGB or Lab or Indexed Color or what?

This information can help give us contact to understand what you're encountering and the trigger.

Thanks,
David

Hello and thanks for your response:

OS Version: 10.13.3
GPU: On or Off, no difference
Color Space: AdobeRGB or sRGB
Mode: RGB Color, 8 bit
Layers: 2+
Blend Modes: Typically normal

Screen shots attached of a typical image.

1. Shows layer stack
2. Before cropping
3. After cropping (darker and you can see that not all layers were affected)

You have two linked smart objects. Are these perhaps (raw) files that were developed in Camera Raw? And if so, did you use Dehaze? Dehaze is an algorithm that uses the entire image to calculate the effect, so if you crop the smart object I could imagine that this would recalculate Dehaze.

I don't think that acr recognizes a crop done on the Ps canvas.

You are correct, my documents include multiple original raw files developed in ACR. I did not use Dehaze on any images, however.

Could you post your file so we can look at the settings? There are a number of raw adjustments that could recalculate if the image is cropped.

I need a different way to upload/post. The PSD on the example file is 275mb and the limit here is 10mb.

Do you use Dropbox or another service like that? If so, upload the file to Dropbox and post a shared link here.

Thanks. Couple of issues while trying to reproduce:

1. The smart object files are missing because they're linked instead of embedded. Try saving a version where the smart object files are embedded
2. Could you add some guide to the file to show where you're cropping too to get the results your describing.

Thanks!

Hi Jeffrey,
When I click on a linked smart object and choose "Embed Linked" from the context menu, the same effect occurs...the camera raw adjustments of the linked file are lost.
