Making an annual calendar using Photoshop CS4 and wondering how to create a natural shadow under an item I placed (say, a dog) over a flat background (stone or carpet). I've previously tried using drop shadow but it still doesn't look natural. Any suggestions?

Sweet. When it doubt, google a how-to. Generally someone else has run into a similar problem. :)
