Photoshop: Create Auto save or saving as .PDFs don't turn active file into .PDFs

This happened to me twice now.

I sometimes forget to check mark the "AS COPY" option when saving as a .PDF. Mostly cause I get another saving screen where I can specify the .PDF options. It always throws me off.
Whenever you save as a .PDF, your ACTIVE FILE becomes that PDF.
So when I do that and uncheck mark the "preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities" and realise my active file is a .PDF (usually I work in it without realising). I try to save the progress I made, but when I do so it automatically has the "LAYERS" box unchecked. Causing my file to get FLATTENED.

It would be a great idea to have a system where your file would get an auto save, just like premiere and After Effects have.
This way if you accidentally save with the layers flattened, you can still recover an earlier version!

Or just make .PDFs auto copies that don't turn the active file into a .PDF
