Crashing of massive PSB file...help!

I accidentally created (and saved) a humungous (24gb) file. Unfortunately, I really need it. The thumbnail looks fine but when I try to open it, I get a vast amount of garbage images from around my computer madly flashing on and off where the file would be.. I tried reducing the file size anyway (with the mess flashing) which needless to say didn't work, I saved it on another drive and tried to open it from there, also no luck (same flashing). Help! Please. I'm using Photoshop CS6

Sounds like the file is corrupt, and that could be symptomatic of photoshop having corrupt memory for some reason before you saved the file.

Since I posted--Each time I tried to open it, it took about 5 minutes to "read" the file. Last night I stayed up all night trying and for some strange reason, on about the 200th try, it magically opened. Of course I immediately reduced the file size and saved it, so I'm a happy camper. Thank you for responding so quickly.

OK, that is odd. That makes it sound like you have bad RAM or a really bad hard drive.
