I have the problem since I updated and it is becoming unsusable.

Importing photos has become extremely slow more than 5 minutes just to select the photos I want to import and the destination folder.
And that is when I am lucky. Otherwise it just stall.
Back to 5.5 no problem.
5.6 seems to me the worst ever release of Lightroom. I have stopped counting the issues and crash.
I love lightroom, but if this time I really hope things get better next realease.

∞ crash.
Unplugged Canon 5D MII from USB. Swapped preferences for a new one. Worked like a charm. Not sure which was the fix.

Do you have an Android device mounted on the computer at the time of import?

No other devices connected aside from the Canon 5D MII. I replaced the old preference file and everything still worked fine as it did before. My guess is the Canon went into sleep mode and Lightroom wasn't able to communicate with the camera when importing or synchronizing the folders so Lightroom would crash instead of reverting to a 'safe' import dialog. All speculation. All I know is it is working like it used to.
