"Could not complete this request because Photoshop does not recognizethis type of file."
This is the message I get when I try to open a Camera RAW file .CR2 in CS5.  Running Mojave 10.14.
Any ideas what to do?

William you are trying to open a camera raw file in a version of Photoshop that precedes the creation of that specific camera type file.  All Canon cameras produce a CR2 file but they are all different based on the camera that produces them.  The easiet thing to do is to go to the Adobe website and download the stand alone DNG converter program.  Convert your newer CR2 files into the Adobe DNG raw files and CS5 will probably open them just fine.  Basically your camera file is newer than the CS5 version of Photoshop you are using and it doesn't recognize that camera file.  DNG is Adobe's version of a raw file so you still will have raw information just like it is still a CR2 file.  The DNG converter is new enough to recognize your newer camera file and put it in the DNG format which CS5 should recognize.

Thanks for your reply.
I recently updated my OS to Mojave 10.14 and though I used to be able to open the .CR2 files, now I can't. I'm afraid there's an incompatibility between Mojave 10.14 and CS5. I was hoping there was a fix for this that didn't require converting to DNG files. I have over 850 GB of .CR2 files so converting each one is a little bit daunting.

Update:
I did download a free trial of Photoshop CC and everything works great. I was just hoping to avoid the $10/month charge for the new Photoshop.
Thanks again.
