Basically the OS says "this window is on device 3",and when we ask for the list of devices it says "you have 1 display device" (or something lower than the number it gave us for the device in use). We then error check the device index before using the list of devices, so that it won't crash -- and that generates the program error.
What MacOS version are you using?
How many displays do you have attached?
Do you have your system setup to mirror any of the displays (like to a projector)?

We'll have to do more testing and see if we can reproduce this bug in MacOS 10.10, and get enough information for Apple to find and fix it.

I then reinstalled and still have the prob. Now I can't seem to find the PSErrorLog.txt
When I first open Ps I can open files but when I go to 'place embedded' I receive the error and then I cannot Open files either.

If you have the 10.10.1 update, Try restoring your preferences: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201... If you do restore your prefs, please save a copy of your existing prefs in case they turn out to be the culprit. Having the bad prefs can sometimes help us track down the issue.

If you got to Preferences>Plug-ins... and uncheck Enable Generator and restart, does the problem go away?

1) Is the Libraries panel visible? If you hide/close it and restart PS, does the problem persist?
2) To eliminate other variables, can you try creating a new Admin user account and run in SafeMode to see if the problem persists. (Instructions for both can be found here: http://bit.ly/Troubleshoot_PS)

After I installed Mac OS Yosemite PS will only open ONE file.
Any subsequent files I attempt to open result in an error message "could not complete your request because of a program error' which then forces me to quit PS as I cannot open any other files.
Am dead in the water - how do I fix this?

CMD + O = *** Collection was mutated while being enumerated.
File > Open = Could not complete your request because of a program error.

That isn't a Photoshop error message.
Which product and version are you using?

What said "Collection was mutated while being enumerated"? Where exactly did that message appear?

having same issue opening files I have tried all above suggestions, but to no avail. Any news or updates from Adobe or Apple on this? So far I can open files in Photoshop through Lightroom, but this is really, really frustrating.
Thanks very much!

Sandra Pinnel
I got the error message "Could not complete your request because of a program error" when I attempted to save a file that I had edited (it should be noted that at the same time, I had 2 other similar files open that I had also edited for which the error message didn't pop up.) This is precisely what happened:
I had finished editing my photograph - I clicked on "Save as" and the error message popped up. So I tried clicking on just "Save" - same error message popped up. So, I clicked on the "X" to close the file - a window popped up to ask me if I wanted to save the changes I'd made - I chose "yes" - and then again, the same error message popped up. (isn't it odd, how a situation like this compels you to scold the computer program; as though it actually can hear you?!!). After inquiring of the program, "So why did you ask me if I wanted to save the changes, when you had no intention of letting me do so?" After that, I
ruminated on the situation .... I had spent a lot of time meticulously working on perfecting a colorization of an old black & white photo - and my result was superb, and not only did I not want the hour's work to be unsaved; but who knows if I could get it that perfect again? Compelled to save my work, I decided to try another approach - and it worked! Here is what I did:
I created a new file, the exact size of the one I couldn't save; and gave it a similar name but not the exact same name. I clicked back onto the image and used the lasso tool to encase the entire image. Using the "move" tool, I slid it
over to the new file. Then, I clicked "Save as" to save the new file, and, voila' !
It let me save it! Yay! Resourcefulness, that's the key - and don't ever give up or lose hope - you can always find a way to prevail; sometimes you just gotta
find another way to do it. I have always applied this principle in life, but computers and programs have a world of their own - and yet, the same principle worked!
Just thought I'd share this "fix", as it were; with you and the folks over at Photoshop. I didn't actually fix the program glitch - I just circumvented it. While I've got you on the horn here, I wanted to tell you how much I love working in Photoshop. I shall never lose the sense of wonder at the technology we have availed to us today, and although I'm an old-timer, I embrace it! I have learned that I have a propensity for graphic art - particularly for colorizing old black & white images. I am careful not to overdo the colorization to the point where you can tell it's fake color - I painstakingly work on it - and I have learned how to colorize eyes really well; they look very real and natural. The photograph I was working on that is the subject of this message was a very old black & white photograph of Bela Lugosi as a young man - without his Dracula regalia and make up on. Placing the black & white photo next to the colorized photo, you see Bela come alive with color - it's amazing, and I did an excellent job, if I do say so myself. Let me know if you want to see it - just email me. My appreciation and gratitude go out to all you folks over there at Adobe, for creating the really neat and useful Photoshop and sharing it with all of us out here!

Thanks!

Above all, I would like to say thank you to Sandra Pinnel. I solved the same problem!! I sincerely appreciate for your advice!.
When I read your text, it seems like you've worked in kind of computer graphic modification. (Sorry, I could not read your whole sentence because my English skill is not good.) I wish for God bless you.
Purpose of writing this reply is to announce the potential reason of this issue. When I solved the problem by following Sandra's method, I tried to figure out the reason of  this issue. It is suggested that the problem might be due to the different version of the photoshop program between your's and the file, which had finished on ANOTHER (maybe higher than yours) version. I checked my troublemaking file. And it turns out that the version of the file is different with mine. My version is 7.0, but version written in the file showed cc 2017 (Macintosh). You can check it out by yourself.
1. Click mouse's right button on the troublemaking file, and select 'properties'
2. Move to 'detailed' tap.
3. Look at 'Program name' in category of 'original'.
It seems like the program name is the version of the photoshop last used.
I hope this information can save other's valuable time!
