Photoshop: Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document.

Whenever I open any .psd file I have made previously, the error "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." occurs. For .pdfs, "This is not a valid .pdf document. It cannot be opened." None of my files can be opened in Photoshop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I had a similar error. Turns out I had accidentally saved a TIFF file with the extension PSD which was confusing photoshop. Try changing the file extension to TIFF and see if that fixes your problem. Hope this helps.

If you are on a Mac, just click on the file on your drive, hit enter, and change the extension from .psd to .tif. I have had this problem repeatedly, and it's the only way I've found to fix it.

On Windows, if the file extension is incorrect, the file won't open with the right app.  Period.  On Mac, things can be different.
