Lightroom Classic: Could not cancel Export As Catalog while Out of Drive Space error message displayed

I had intended to do an Export as Catalog with just one image, as a way of backing up my Smart Collections. However, I seem to have accidentally selected ALL images in my production catalog, about 160 GB worth,  My catalogs are stored on my Drive D, which had 30 GB free. Drive D is an SSD.  Photo image files are stored on a 4 TB HDD.

I could cancel this Export operation only after I moved as many folders off D as possible to a different drive and used a third-party partition manager to extend Drive D to have 180 GB free.

The obvious solution is to allow cancellation of the Export operation even with an error message displayed.

My system is Windows 10 Pro 64

The [ x ] button in the progress bar should allow you to cancel an Export as Catalog operation.

Rikk,

Maybe Lightroom is supposed to allow me to cancel that Export as Catalog operation even with that error message, but in practice it did not.  I tried probably four times to click on the red X on the right side of the progress bar, and each time the error message window was displayed instead of cancelling the operation.

I suspect the cancellation feature was not tested completely.  I am sure that you can replicate this issue.

After I recovered control of Lightroom, (by expanding the size of my Drive D) I carefully repeated the Export as Catalog process, being very careful to Unselect All and then to select just one image.  However, I still got a window with the box checked with something like "export all images."  Someone needs to look at the overall workflow here.

I got this email:  avpman me-too'd your problem: Could not cancel Export As Catalog while Out of Drive Space er...

I've tested on my end with Mac 10.14.6 and Windows 10 and I can successfully cancel an Export as a Catalog on either system.  When I cancel on Windows, I receive a dialog asking if I want to cancel and a second to confirm but it cancels immediately.  I have been unable to replicate the issue so far.

Rikk,

Did you test specifically with an "out of space" error message window displayed?

Without that error message window, I also have no problem cancelling an Export as Catalog operation.

Yes. I tested with the out of space condition. Cancellation took about 10 seconds to happen.

Rikk,

I was unable to get the cancellation to take effect.  Maybe I just didn't wait long enough.
