In the DEVELOP module, with the COPY AND PASTE command, in the COPY SETTINGS, please add METADATA and RATING to this one step dialog. I know I can copy and past separately, but I want to do this in ONE STEP.

Often in photo journalism I need to copy and paste the develop settings for everything shot in a sequence, All photos in the sequence have the same metadata and rating (subject, title, etc.) It would speed up my editing if I could do this.

This was a regular feature in Apple's Aperture, and the one thing I miss now that I use Lightroom.

I realize that this isn't quite what you're asking, but there is a separate "Copy Metadata" (and "Sync Metadata") option already available. So if you're OK doing it in two steps (settings & metadata), you can already do this.

1) Right click on the photo that has the right metadata
2) Select "Metadata Presets..."
3) Select "Copy Metadata..."
4) Select as many or as few metadata fields as you like
5) Select the photo(s) to which you want to apply that metadata
6) Right click and select "Metadata Presets..." again
7) Select "Paste Metadata"

There are keyboard shortcuts for both copy & paste. These options are available in both Library and Develop module.

If you find yourself often applying the same boilerplate metadata  (e.g. copyright, location, keywords, etc.) to bunch of photos then I'd create a Metadata Preset to quickly stamp the photos directly without having to copy & paste.
