My laptop has crashed irrepairably and I had to buy a new computer. The laptop was Windows (I thing 64 bit, but installed several programs as 32 bit as well, so maybe also photoshop.....), my new computer is iMac (Yosemity). Therefor I bought Photoshop Elements 13.

What I have on an external harddrive:
folder named Photoshop elements backup. In it are two folders:
Photoshop elements 5.0 and Photoshop elements 7.0
Photoshop elements 5.0 folder contains a file ending on .psa
Photoshop elements 7.0 folder contains 10.000 + files (photo's and media files)
Since this one is called backup as well I assume I made it with the backup function in photoshop elelements 7.

How can I open my (windows made) photoshopelements 5.0 catalog without having a windows computer to convert the file to mac Photoshop elements 13
Same question for PE 7 folder.

again: I donn't have a windows computer anymore.

I would review this help documentation:

Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elem...

See this discussion and particularly the answers by expert Barbara B:

From the link given by Jeffrey Tranberry:

"Transfer your catalog from Windows to Mac OS

If you used Photoshop Album or a previous version of Elements Organizer on Windows, you can transfer media to Elements 9 or later Organizer on Mac OS."
...
Before you begin this process, do all of the following:

Ensure that you have access to the Windows computer that has your catalog and photos."
