Convert path to shape fills outside, not inside

When I draw a path, then click the shape button on the context menu on the menu bar, the outside, not the inside, is filled with the current fill color.  Any changes in the fill color change the outside color, leaving the inside untouched.  The current stroke color and density are ignored — the converted shape has no stroke.

If I draw a path with the Pen tool, then click Make and Shape, it fills the shape, inside.

If I know I want a shape to start with, I select Shape from the Options bar before I draw a path. No problem then, either.

Are you using the Pen tool and Make Shape is inverting something? I'm not sure how it can since you haven't got an active selection, just a path. But if that's indeed what's happening, and the layer in your Paths panel shows a gray shape against a white rectangle, then something is wrong. What OS are you using, and what version of PS?

I’m running Windows 10, Version 1709, Build 16299.64.

Since my last post, I have found that
  • my graphics processor is evidently not the cause, since the problem still occurs with the graphics support turned off;
  • the problem doesn’t appear on my Windows 7 laptop.  There, the fill goes inside and the stroke is correctly applied.
Finally, there is a me-too attached to this thread, which indicates that at least one other person has encountered this problem.

I don't know Windows at all anymore, but I've heard there are as many problems with Windows 10 Creators? as with High Sierra for Mac. It would have been helpful for the Me Too respondent to actually have commented about their own situation and setup. Otherwise, it could have been someone responding to just about anything here, or accidentally dropping their stylus on the Me Too<G>

I'm not saying others aren't suffering this. If you are, chances are good someone else is, whether they know it or not. Can you live with selecting Shape in the Pen's Options bar before drawing your path until someone from Adobe can get around to this thread and see what's going on? Or is there something that prevents that particular workflow?

That’s my workaround for now.  If I absolutely have to convert a path to a shape, I can do it on my Windows 7 laptop.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Adobe still hasn't jumped in here to help you out, unless they've got you in another thread, so I'm posting to send this back to the top of the list.
