Photoshop: color sampler tool opacity

color sampler tool - needs opacity or alpha. Since there's room, you might as well just have it set as RGBA as a mode. I'm not sure why that's not just the default on the info panel.
But if we could at least have opacity that would help. When you're making masks to make sure shadows or gradients fall off before the image size it's tough to adjust your mask as wide as possible without changing the transparency of some of your image that might be important. So I add a dropper at the edge of my object and adjust. I have to do a terrible workaround to get what I want. Within the group that I'm editing I'll add a layer with a small black square. Then I add a green layer outside of the group I'm masking. Then I put a color sampler over the black. If that sampler changes numbers from zero I know it's gone slightly transparent and my mask has moved too far. It would be much easier if I could just see the transparency under the dropper.
