The preview window of the Pixel Bender plug-in for Photoshop is currently not color-managed. As a result Pixel Bender cannot be used for subtle colour/tone correction filters. To enable this, two things need to be improved:
1) Apply the monitor profile for an accurate preview
2) Ability to apply Pixel Bender filters in a standard color space: sRGB, Adobe RGB (or PB language support for colour conversions and more exotic color spaces)

PixelBender seems to have been designed with After Effects in mind, but the same design considerations could make it a good candidate for ACR/Lightroom. If anything, it's the current modal implementation in Photoshop that seems like an odd fit for the PB language.

Still, I keep hoping that there will be a way for third-party developers to insert filters into the Lightroom rendering pipeline. If not PixelBender then something else.
