Photoshop: Color Picker in 16-bit mode, 50% gray issue

When investigating another problem (here) I came across strange behavior of the Color Picker dialog.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a new 100x100px 16-bit document, zoom to 100%. Open the "Info" Panel. Change RGB read-out to 16-bit.
  2. Create a new Solid Color Adjustment Layer. A "Color Picker (Solid Color)" dialog appears.
  3. Focus the "B:" input field, enter 50 (don't press enter).
  4. Hover over the document and read-out 16-bit RGB values: 16384, 16384, 16384 (as expected)

  5. Focus the "R:" input field, enter 0 (don't press enter)
  6. Hover over the document and read-out 16-bit RGB values: 0, 16448, 16448 (0 - expected, 16448 - unexpected. I changed only R value, but G B have also changed from 16384 to 16448.). I suspect that the whole RGB value is recomputed even when I change only one field. I expect only the value I've changed is recomputed.

Unexpected behavior
:

When I change only one field in the RGB section, I expect that the resulting color only changes in that channel. For example when the color is R=12, G=34, B=54 and I modify R=99, I expect that the resulting color G stays 34 and B stays 54 (in all supported bit-depths).

Strange indeed, but in 8bit both the 16bit values 16384 and 16448 come out as 128 again.

It would be really helpful if Photoshop supported > 8-bit values on the color picker.
