Cloud image access via LR Classic

I have images added to a LR CC shared Album. This album is visible in LR Classic as a collection as expected. However the images are not in anyway editable. The have an info box indicating that they are 'missing and also that they are sync'd with LR Mobile'. If I click on this info box, I get told I need to Locate the images. I have discussed this with Adobe support who suggest the solution is to download the images to local storage and then 'link' these with Classic to have full access. This obviously defeats the purpose of cloud storage. So is it correct that images stored in the cloud can be viewed in LR Classic (by sharing) and therefore printed, included in book, etc, but can only be edited in LR CC (or PS), but not in LR Classic?

OK. Update on this issue. I have added some additional images to cloud storage to the same shared album visa LR CC. These have appeared in the same 'collection' in LR Classic and are fully editable in the Dev Module. I have made Virtual Copies, made edits, etc and all have auto sync'd back to the cloud storage and are visible in CC. The original images are still flagged as being missing. seems there was a glitch of some sort with the initial import/sync??
