Photoshop: Closing all Groups (within an artboard document)

I'm not sure if this is how it's intended to work, but I love being able to quickly open or close all groups in a document by cmd-clicking (or I assume, ctrl-clicking on a PC) on the folder icon in the layers panel. However, this doesn't work in files where the Groups are in Artboards. I can cmd-click an Artboard to collapse all Artboards, but I don't ever need to actually do that.

In order to close all Groups (without individually clicking next to each one in the Layers panel), I have to right click on a folder arrow and select "Open Other Groups" to open all Groups, then right click again and select "Close All Groups". This closes all Groups and Artboards. Then I have to open my Artboard again and then close the Group (the Group that I originally selected "Close All" from), because for some reason, it's still open.

I understand this issue relates to the fact that cmd-clicking doesn't work on nested Groups. But since Photoshop seems to treat Artboards as Groups (I guess there is a half-truth to that, but it's annoying), there is no easy way to close all Groups in a document when working with Artboards.

Is there a setting I'm not seeing that's causing my Groups to act this way? Is this a known bug? Or was this just an oversight from when Artboards were originally implemented a couple of years ago?

Artboards are, essentially, groups with special properties, so it sounds like it is working like it used to, just with a different name... As a work around, you can alt(option?) click any group or artboard to close it and all children up... By doing it on the parent artboard, you get a similar result. Not exactly what you want, but better than nothing?

Hey Max, thanks for your reply.

You're right, that is better than nothing. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully one day they allow Ctrl/Cmd+Clicking to work on nested groups (and all others on that level in that group/artboard). But this is definitely an improvement on what I was doing before. Thanks!
