Elements: Clone stamp in wrong area

Clone stamp problem no one in the forum has answered yet. Try to clone an area and it shoots off streaks, blobs, dots, or repeats the clone everywhere but where you want it to go. It seems a lot of other Adobe users are experiencing the same problem. I have tried all the potential fixes people recommended but nothing works. Can Adobe troubleshooters shed some light on this for a lot of frustrated users?

The only similar problems I know of were caused by out of date tablet drivers.

Are you seeing something more like "I selected a scatter brush by mistake", or "my mouse cursor takes off at random"?

Hi Chris. No it isn't either of those. I don't use a tablet, I use a wireless mouse and keyboard. The wireless mouse (Microsoft) is connected by a USB (it's small and made for laptops. The USB transmitter plugs in to the computer. The Keyboard (Microsoft) is wireless also with it's own USB transmitter.

This problem started way back when I used PS 6. Not at first, but after a while the streaks and blobs (for lack of a better word) began. I was spending more time fixing these than I was working on my picture. I thought it might just be 6. so I bought the new PSE 8, downloaded it from Adobe and the same thing happens. I tried what people on the Adobe Forum posted as a fix. Nothing has worked. All my drivers are updated. Since this has happened with 6, 8 and now 9,

I believe it is something inherent in the program. There are a lot of people experiencing the same anomaly. Has Adobe investigated this problem? I use Photoshop for my online photoart business, but may have to go to a different program, which I do not want to do because I know Photoshop so well and it's a great program otherwise. Thanks for your response.

Hi Lyn,

Have you tried a different (wired) mouse? If this were a widespread problem, we'd have hundreds of thousands of complaints.

I tried a wired keyboard, but not a wired mouse. I'll let you know what happens.

I tried a wired mouse and that didn't change anything. Now the paint brush tool is doing the same thing. I'm very frustrated.

If it is something to do with my computer and not the PSE program, what could it be? I have tried everything I have read in the Adobe forum. None of the suggestions worked. It truly is a puzzle to me. Any more suggestions?
Thanks, Lyn

I have this problem too, but not as often. FYI, I have never gotten any problem with brushes or anything, just clone stamp.

The clone stamp tool is acting up in Photoshop Elements 10. I tried to reset the tool, but the problem persists. The only way I can get the thing to work properly is to exit the program and restart my computer. I'm concerned because it keeps messing up my photos and sometimes I don't notice it until I have already done several edits and then I can't fix it so I have to start all over. What's happening is when I attempt to use the tool, it will sometimes make a long streak or mark in another area of the photo, causing it to look distorted. Thanks for your help :)

This issue has occurred on Windows Vista 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit OS running PSE 9.0-9.0.3

I have found serious bugs in the "self healing" and "clone" tools. After multiple uses of both these tools, the self healing/clone tool begins to leave long streaks rayed out from your cursor that have modified your image. Thethey also begin to modify your image in locations not specified by your cursor position. The only way to fix is to save your image then exit the Editor and re-launch the app.

I checked the memory allocation for PSE and maxed out hoping to fix, but I did not fix the issue. The only workaround I have is to exit and re-launch. This points to a possible memory and space allocation/deallocation and usage issues or possible "memory creep" with the app. TIA

Hi all! I have been having the problems mentioned above going way back to PhotoShop 6 and on 9 now. It is frustrating and the PhotoShop tech support said that I am just one of a few who have this problem (I took that to mean it was something I was doing or in my computer or mouse.) I tried all the things he said to do, and things that others mentioned in the forum, nothing worked.

Using Photoshop 6 I had XP, 7 and 8 Vista and then Microsoft 7. I recently bought a new iMac and using PhotoShop 9 for MAC I have not had any problems, so, could this be a bug having to do do with Microsoft?

One other note: On my Windows Laptop when using PhotoShop 9 I don't have to exit the program. If I catch what the tool has done before too much damage has been done, I hit undo until it is back to where it was and start over by holding the mouse down a with a little more pressure and sometimes that helps. Also, when using the clone stamp or other tools, I look over at the layers on the right of the screen and if it flashes, I know the clone stamp won't work correctly, if it doesn't flash, then I know it will. Weird eh?

Since I could not get any help with this issue, I have found ways around it. Every time I use the clone stamp, I check my picture to see if it changed anything in my picture (streaking, blobs, squiggles, etc.) before continuing, so I don't have to do a lot more correcting at the finish. Frustrating, but it helps.

I work more on the iMac now, since it doesn't have this problem, but when on my Dell laptop with Windows 7, it is frustrating when you work hard on a picture, only to have to spend twice the time to fix the errors caused by PhotoShop's Clone stamp and other tools. Adobe won't help, so we're on our own......Good Luck, I hope I have helped in some small way.

I have this problem too. Did all the fixes suggested. Formated and reinstalled from scratch about 4 months ago after adobe told me they would do nothing for me since I did not have the most recent version. Reinstall worked until the problem started again 2 days ago. I think I will look into finding a non adobe option at this point. Thou roughly fed up with a 20 minute edit job taking over an hour because of a program error.

Me too. with this clone stamp problem it splatters instead of cloning. I transferred this program to a new laptop when the old one died. I properly uninstalling from the old machine and reinstalled on this . I am using a Windows 8 laptop with 64bit. the clone stamp has ceased to work after not quite 3months on this new machine. Other strange effects seemed to happen and I had to re boot completely to get it to work again. It worked happily on my old machine for well over a year. Do you have any suggestions because it obviously isn't just me with this problem.
